In the book of John chapter 11:1-44 we read about Marys brother Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the dead. In verse 35 we all know, it says Jesus Wept. My thoughts on this is if Jesus knew he was going to raise up Lazarus from the dead why did he weep. I believe it had to do with the unbelief of those he loved and Mary especially when in verse 33 it says how Mary and them were crying mourning the death of Lazarus i believe it was over Marys and Martha's pain for her brother mainly. Can anyone  shed some light into this. thank you

Hi John !!!

When Jesus saw Mary distraught , weeping , hurting , I feel His first reaction was pure compassion . When I myself see someone crying , hurting , in a ditch half dead , starving ... , my first reaction is compassion , besides acting to help my heart also weeps with them . Yes , unbelief may have put them in that position to start with , and that is definitively another great reason to be upset , as we watch the world burn .              When we see hurt , there is definitely a reason why . But personally It is the hurt that hits me first , not the why .            Hope this helps you find your own answer .

Fell FREE to disagree !!!! ,I would love to HEAR more !!!!

HI Frank, I do have to agree with you, I guess more for there grief, also a friend who is a pastor from light of the city ministries brought out an interesting point, that it was shortly before Jesus was going to face the cross and he was becoming sorrowful about knowing the death he would suffer and was very emotional over what was going on at Lazarus tomb. Thanks for the insight, blessings.

Hello Frank Phonix, Re Jesus weeping, I feel when it says Jesus ''suffered'' learning obedience, it was ''hard''for HIM to ''wait'' yet even HE could not go til the Father said to go.  The Obedience was that He was hitting the mark PERFECTLY by obeying the timing on things.  Go in when the Lord says to, "Come OUT  when the Lord says to."  That plus the other stuff you said made Him weep. Someday we may get to speak to Him re this.

Hello Carlene !!

Sitting around a camp fire sharing with Jesus !! Amen to that !!

Do you think that once we come to the place where we learned obedience that it then is then replaced by joy and peace ?  I do !!!      What say you ? !!!

John 11:32-35 KJV

32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35 Jesus wept.

Yes...compassion...why weep about unbelief when he encountered that every day as a matter of course and surely expected it as part of the territory, so to speak?

But Mary said to him...if you had been here...my brother would not have died...it was the grief of the loss that she had experienced that hit him the hardest, I think...because HE FELT FOR HER and HE FELT WITH HER...and knowing as he did that Lazarus would not be dead but a few moments longer, that the pain she had already experienced was necessary because GOD had planned this as part of the whole progressive working...still it hurt him to know she was hurting...

The epitome of both human and divine is what we see in Jesus....the man...living as an individual but yet retaining the knowledge of divine connection through the ONE Creator...the final connection and the intended desire in the experience of the Creator to feel what His Creation felt...that is more human than human...and to me, personally, is what the Almighty Most High GOD seeks...not to be GOD only but to be man, too...for the sake of man...

Amen , Amen , Amen and Amen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Bel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes it's fullment "blessed are those who mourn for they will becomforted" Christ was weeping for the lack of understanding of the creation for thier lack of understanding of God.
